| Australia shares rise 0.6 percent, inflation boosts |

Consumer prices rose by less than expected in the December quarter, which saw the Australian dollar sink, and pointed to interest rates on hold for some months yet. A weaker Aussie dollar means higher returns for resources stocks, which export the bulk of their production. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index gained 0.6 percent to 4815.3 at 0110 GMT. The index rose 0.6 percent on Monday, boosted by the top banks. New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index rose 0.4 percent to 3,364.5.
STOCKS ON THE MOVE * Shares in Australia's second largest airline, Virgin Blue , slipped 5.9 percent to A$0.40 after it warned floods and weak consumer spending would hit profit. 2315 GMT (Reporting by Adrian Bathgate; editing Gyles Beckford)
